These are women I find fascinating because of their complexity, their spirit, and their unforgettableness.
1. Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice.
2. Jo March from Little Women.
3. Anne Shirley of the Anne of Green Gables series.
4. Jane Eyre.
5. Elinor and Marianne Dashwood from Sense and Sensibility. (I can’t pick just one of them because I empathize with them both in certain ways.)
Runners-up: Thursday Next of the Thursday Next series by Jasper Fforde (SUCH a good series!); Criseyde from Chaucer’s Troilus and Criseyde; Janie Crawford from Their Eyes Were Watching God.
Maybe next week I’ll do a list of female characters I don’t like. (Bella Swan, I’m talking about you!)
Who are your favorite literary characters?
